Each community primary and secondary school, Church of England primary and academy has a geographical area around it called a 'catchment area', except for:
- Cheadle Hulme Primary School
- Woodford Primary School
- Stockport Academy
- Laurus, Cheadle Hulme
Every address in Stockport falls within the catchment area of one primary and one secondary school.
Each address also has an associated primary and secondary Catholic school. Catholic schools use different admission arrangements.
